The Hardin County Coroner’s Office staff is responsible for death investigations and determining cause of death. The three full-time and three part-time coroners have more than 153 combined years of death investigation experience. Hardin County is the only county in Kentucky to have as many as six master coroners.

Does the Hardin County Coroner’s Office perform autopsies?
- No. If an autopsy is deemed necessary then cases are sent to the Office of the Kentucky State Medical Examiner in Louisville.
Do the families of the deceased have to pay for an autopsy if it is deemed necessary?
- No. The only time the family would pay for an autopsy is if the coroner deems it unnecessary. In that instance, a private autopsy can be obtained at the family’s expense.
