LEGAL NOTICE
NOTICE OF PLANNED REAPPORTIONMENT
In accordance with the provisions of KRS 67.045 and KRS Chapter 424, notice is given that the fiscal court plans to reapportion the boundary lines for the eight Fiscal Court Justices of the Peace (Magistrates) and eight Constables. Boundary lines shall be laid off so that the districts are compact, contiguous and the population of each district shall be as nearly equal as is reasonably possible. The fiscal court will appoint three citizens as commissioners to reapportion the county into eight (8) districts at the fiscal court meeting to be held on May 23, 2023 at 5:30 pm at 150 North Provident Way, Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Appointed commissioners will meet on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm at 150 North Provident Way, Suite 130, Elizabethtown, Kentucky to reapportion the county. A written report of such boundary lines shall be filed with the Hardin County Fiscal Court and the Office of the County Clerk within 60 days of appointment of commissioners. Within 60 days of the receipt of the report, the fiscal court shall adopt or amend the report in establishing the districts.
As soon as the fiscal court has adopted the report establishing the districts, any registered voter of Hardin County may bring an action in the Circuit Court to enforce the provisions of KRS 67.045. A registered voter may appeal the action of the Fiscal Court in establishing the districts by filing an action in Hardin Circuit Court within 20 days of adoption of the new district boundaries. The Circuit Court shall hear the action and, on a finding that the provisions of KRS 67.045 have been violated, remand the matter to the fiscal court.
