Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I drop off recycling?

Our recycling centers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the following locations.

Why should I recycle?

Recycling is the simplest and easiest way to preserve valuable and finite resources. It has a profound impact upon our earth and helps maintain it as a healthy and sustainable place for future generations.

If every American household recycled just one milk jug, we would keep 200 million pounds of plastic out of America’s landfills.

In one year the average American throws away 1 ton of garbage, and uses/discards 2 pine trees in paper products.

What items are not accepted at the recycling centers?

We cannot accept glass, Styrofoam, magazines, light bulbs, plastic bags, phone books, food wrappers, plastics 3 through 7, liquids, helium tanks, electronics, batteries or appliances.

How should I prepare my recycling?

1. Rinse all containers
2. Remove all lids
3. Flatten all cardboard

What about hazardous waste?

We offer an annual Household Hazardous Waste day in August. This date can change from year to year. We take items such as batteries, antifreeze, prescription drugs and other household chemicals.

What about electronic equipment?

We offer an annual E-Scrap Day in April. We accept electronic equipment such as computers, cell phones, televisions and printers, among other items.

Is there still dead animal removal?

Can I dump at the landfill for free?

Throughout the year we offer 2 or 3 Free Service Days at our Pearl Hollow Landfill, located at 1620 Audubon Trace Road in Elizabethtown. Call 270-506-1062 or 270-796-2951 for information on Free Services Days.

Can I schedule programs for schools or organizations?

Contact Recycling Department Director Stephanie Givens by phone or email for more information.
